The Telugu Desam Party has expressed concern over the alarming proportions that land grabbing had assumed in the State ever since the Congress Government came to power.
At a press conference here on Monday, TDP official spokespersons P. Chandrasekhar, K. Ramamohan Rao and Telugu Mahila president Vanga Geeta said land grabbers were not sparing any land, be it properties belonging to temples, Christian organisations or the Wakf Board.
Mr. Chandrasekhar recalled instances of the Government being unable to safeguard Wakf properties at several places in the State, including Hyderabad and Vijayawada.
Referring to the ongoing controversy raked up by Opposition parties over a feared reduction in the area under the jurisdiction of Tirumala, he said, “Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy calls it God’s rule, then why is he going against people’s faiths?” he asked.
Given the increasing number of devotees visiting Tirumala for a `darshan’ of Lord Balaji, former MP Mr. Ramamohan Rao said there was no need for Tirumala to be packaged as a tourist destination. “What more can we expect from the Government in the name of tourism promotion,” he wondered, adding what was urgently needed was a complete revamp of Tirumala administration.
